Tangerang City Baznas Collects Rp16.5 Billion in First Semester

The Tangerang City National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) in Banten reported collecting Rp16.5 billion in zakat, infaq, alms, qurban, and other religious social funds (DSKL) during the first semester of 2026. “Of the Rp16.5 billion we managed to collect, we have distributed Rp14.9 billion to those entitled to receive it,” said Tangerang City Baznas Chairman Aslie Elhusyairy on Thursday. He detailed that the collected funds comprised Rp7.8 billion in zakat fitrah, Rp3.9 billion in infaq, Rp3.3 billion in zakat mal, and approximately Rp1.47 billion in qurban funds. This achievement was supported by increasing public trust, with 170,913 muzaki and donors, consisting of 170,889 individual donors and 24 institutions or companies channelling zakat and social funds through Tangerang City Baznas. He added that the growing number of muzaki and donors demonstrates rising public confidence in the agency’s professional, transparent, and accountable governance. “The trust from 170,000 muzaki and the increase in corporate donors motivate us to continue strengthening our governance,” he said. He assured that every entrusted fund is returned to the rightful recipients in a targeted manner. “Zakat is not only an act of worship but also an instrument to reduce poverty, improve the quality of education and health, and strengthen the people’s economy,” he stated. According to an evaluation report, social and humanitarian programmes were the sector with the largest number of beneficiaries, reaching 33,508 people. Of this figure, 29,484 recipients received zakat fitrah assistance, while 3,420 underprivileged individuals received logistical aid to meet basic needs. Baznas was also active in disaster response, providing aid to flood and fire victims. In the education sector, 1,660 beneficiaries received assistance in the form of scholarships, tuition fee support, and school supplies for 1,448 students, as well as the construction of educational facilities and madrasahs. In the economic sector, 204 beneficiaries received support for micro-enterprise empowerment, business capital, entrepreneurship training, and MSME strengthening programmes aimed at improving family welfare. In the health sector, Baznas distributed aid to 108 beneficiaries, including free nutrition kitchen programmes, specialised medical services, medical expense assistance, and the provision of health aids. In the field of dakwah and advocacy, 507 beneficiaries received services through Islamic outreach activities, guidance for converts, and the construction and rehabilitation of places of worship. He emphasised that zakat distribution consistently adheres to the eight categories of recipients (asnaf) according to Islamic law. In terms of realisation, distribution to the poor reached approximately 69 percent of the target, fisabilillah 69 percent, amil 66 percent, and gharimin 39 percent. “All programmes are designed not merely to provide temporary assistance but also to encourage mustahik to become more independent. We want zakat to be an empowerment instrument capable of improving the quality of life for the people of Tangerang City,” he said. Beyond collection and distribution achievements, Tangerang City Baznas also recorded a distribution effectiveness ratio of 89.9 percent, exceeding the good category standard, and achieved a National Zakat Index (IZN) of 8.7, the highest in Banten Province and second highest nationally. “This achievement is thanks to the support and trust of the community in Baznas,” he concluded.
