Tanah Datar Regent Thanks Dony Oskaria for Land Grant to Build 'Sekolah Rakyat'
The Regent of Tanah Datar, Eka Putra, has extended his appreciation to Dony Oskaria, Head of the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Regulatory Body, for donating 19 hectares of land for the construction of a ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ (People’s School) in Nagari Tanjung Alam, Tanjung Baru. The regent described the land grant as an exemplary act of leadership, social awareness, and mutual cooperation. “On behalf of the Tanah Datar Regency Government and the entire community, we express our deepest gratitude to Mr. Dony Oskaria and his family. This is not merely a land grant, but a major investment in the future of Tanah Datar’s generation. This exemplary act serves as an inspiration that regional development is a shared responsibility,” Eka Putra told reporters on Friday (26/6/2026). The planned Sekolah Rakyat is designed as a free boarding school for children from poor, vulnerable, and extremely poor families. The facility will not only include classrooms but also dormitories, places of worship, a health clinic, sports facilities, road infrastructure, and clean water access to create a comprehensive educational environment. The investment value for the construction is estimated to reach IDR 250-300 billion, with a capacity to accommodate up to 3,000 students from elementary to senior high school levels. The Tanah Datar Regency Government believes the presence of the Sekolah Rakyat will have a multiplier effect on regional development. Beyond improving the quality of education, the project is projected to stimulate the local economy through increased construction activity, the growth of micro-enterprises, local trade, services, and the creation of new jobs in the surrounding area. The local government views collaboration between the central government, regional government, the community, and socially conscious figures as key to achieving sustainable development. The land grant is seen as proof that such synergy can deliver real solutions for improving the quality of life. Tanah Datar is known as a centre for agriculture, tourism, and culture in West Sumatra. In recent years, the regional government has continued to push for improvements in human resources as a foundation for inclusive economic growth. The presence of the Sekolah Rakyat is expected to be a catalyst in reducing intergenerational poverty while enhancing regional competitiveness through more equitable access to education. “We are committed to overseeing this project to ensure it is completed on time, on target, and provides maximum benefit to the community. We hope the Sekolah Rakyat will become a space for producing an excellent generation that will bring progress to Tanah Datar, West Sumatra, and Indonesia,” Eka Putra added.
