Following up on the boundary dispute between Nagari Simawang in Tanah Datar Regency and Nagari Bukit Kanduang in Solok Regency, the two regional heads held a joint meeting and audience recently.

Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra stated that the visit was a form of follow-up by the regional government to resolve the boundary issues occurring between the two areas. “This visit is to align perceptions, especially in providing direction and communication to the communities in both areas to exercise restraint regarding the issue, which has heated up in recent times,” he said.

The Regent further stated that the Tanah Datar and Solok Regency Governments are currently in continuous communication to take the best steps to resolve the conflict. “This boundary issue has also been included in discussions between the regional heads and has been submitted at the Ministry of Home Affairs level. However, there are indeed no results or clarity yet that can be established for the boundary, therefore I hope the communities in both areas will be patient,” Eka Putra conveyed.

This visit also aimed to follow up on a letter from the Tanah Datar Regent sent to Solok Regent Jon Firman Pandu regarding the staking out for the construction of the Brigif TP and the planned YON TP 951/PM land carried out by the community of Nagari Bukik Kanduang, X Koto Diatas District, on customary land belonging to Nagari Simawang, Tanah Datar Regency.

“We have sent a letter to the Solok Regent, copied to the Ministry of Home Affairs, regarding the objection to the land staking because it is not in accordance with the efforts to resolve regional boundary disputes as regulated in the Minister of Home Affairs Regulation Number 141 of 2017 concerning the Affirmation of Regional Boundaries. And with this visit, we jointly seek the best solution steps for our communities,” he said.

Meanwhile, Solok Regent Jhon Firman Pandu welcomed the visit of the Tanah Datar Regent and his officials to discuss concrete steps for the issues between the two regions. “This is tangible proof of the Regional Government’s presence in resolving the boundary conflict between the two areas, therefore I also ask the communities, both in Solok and Tanah Datar Regencies, to maintain a conducive situation,” he conveyed.

Following the discussion between the two regional leaders, who were accompanied by officials from the Tanah Datar and Solok Regency Governments, both parties agreed to mutually halt the activities under dispute while formulating the best solution for its resolution.
