Tanah Datar and Solok Opt for Deliberative Path in Border Dispute

The Tanah Datar and Solok Regency Governments held a meeting to discuss the construction plan for the Yonif TP 951/Pandeka Marapi Battalion Headquarters in the border area between Nagari Simawang, Tanah Datar Regency, and Nagari Bukik Kanduang, Solok Regency, on Sunday (28/6). The meeting was held following public objections to the land demarcation plan, as the boundary status of the two nagari is still being resolved at the Ministry of Home Affairs. The deliberation took place at the Solok Regent’s official residence and was attended by Solok Regent Jon Firman Pandu, Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra, military district command elements from Tanah Datar and Solok, the Solok Regional Secretary, heads of relevant agencies, sub-district heads, village heads, and customary and village consultative body representatives from both nagari. The meeting discussed the plan to provide approximately 40 hectares of land to be granted to the Indonesian National Armed Forces for the battalion headquarters. Both regional heads agreed to prioritise dialogue and objective land mapping based on the principle of justice for all parties. Tanah Datar Regent Eka Putra stated that the meeting was prompted by a letter of objection from the Simawang community regarding land proposed by Nagari Bukik Kanduang, which he said is located in an area where the administrative boundary has not been finalised by the Ministry of Home Affairs. He emphasised the close historical, social, and cultural ties between the two communities and the need to resolve the issue through dialogue. While supporting the national strategic programme, he stressed that its implementation must consider social conditions and clear communication. Solok Regent Jon Firman Pandu echoed this support, noting the base would enhance regional security and boost local economic growth. The meeting concluded with an agreement on a temporary map for the construction site, with a field inspection to follow to verify boundary points before construction proceeds.
