Visitors during the first week of Ramadan have remained at normal daily levels. A significant increase in visitor numbers is expected in early March, from approximately 4 March through to the eve of Eid al-Fitr, said Tanah Abang Block A Market Manager Hery Supriyatna when contacted in Jakarta on Sunday.

Hery forecast that visitor numbers from March through to the approach of Eid could exceed 30,000 people.

Reflecting on last year, he said, the increase in visits to Block A Tanah Abang began two weeks before Eid al-Fitr. At that time, the average daily footfall reached 40,000 to 45,000 people.

Regarding the recent visit by Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno, Hery said the purpose was to maximise services in anticipation of the visitor surge.

In addition, Rano also ensured that both visitors and traders could feel comfortable and that there would be no illegal parking in the area.

“There is no room for illegal parking because the Jakarta Provincial Government is committed to eradicating and bringing order to all illegal parking,” he said.
