Tanah Abang subdistrict head optimistic area will remain conducive ahead of planned protest
Tanah Abang Sub-district Head Utami is optimistic that her area will remain conducive ahead of a planned protest on 27 August, supported by 47 community organisations (ormas) that are ready to work together to maintain security.
“In any case, the economic wheel in Tanah Abang is quite significant. This is what motivates the community organisations united under Rumah Guyub Tanah Abang to safeguard the Tanah Abang, Gambir and Menteng areas,” Utami said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
Utami said the presence of dozens of community organisations is one of the strengths in maintaining regional conduciveness, especially because the Tanah Abang area is one of the centres of economic activity in Central Jakarta.
According to her, collaboration with various elements of society is needed to ensure that community activities and economic activity continue to run well ahead of and during the agenda for expressing opinions.
It is known that the planned protest on 27 August 2026, which has been widely discussed on social media, has drawn the attention of the Central Jakarta City Government, particularly in maintaining regional conduciveness.
The government has ensured that various anticipatory measures are being taken together with elements of society so that residents’ activities and the economy continue to run, while also ensuring that the expression of aspirations takes place in an orderly and safe manner.
Meanwhile, Chairman of Rumah Guyub Tanah Abang (RGT) Haji Heru said his side is ready to help maintain conduciveness in three areas of Central Jakarta, namely Tanah Abang, Gambir and Menteng sub-districts.
Heru stressed that his side does not prohibit the public from expressing their aspirations because expressing opinions is a right protected by law.
He also urged people coming to Jakarta to express their aspirations to maintain order and not to take actions that could disrupt security.
“We want a conducive Jakarta. The reason is that there are hundreds, even thousands, of people earning a living in Central Jakarta,” Heru said.
