Tanah Abang–Slipi Traffic Jam Stretches 3.8 km on Wednesday Night, Horns Blare Non-Stop
JAKARTA - Traffic flow in the Bendungan Hilir area of Central Jakarta to Palmerah in West Jakarta experienced long congestion on Wednesday (8/4/2026) night.
Kompas.com observations revealed the jam snaking approximately 3.8 kilometres from Jalan KH Mas Mansyur in Tanah Abang to Bendungan Hilir, extending to Jalan Letjen S. Parman in Slipi.
Based on Kompas.com monitoring at the site, the tail of the congestion was visible starting from the Jalan KH Mas Mansyur area in Tanah Abang.
A combination of heavy rain that had poured earlier, dense vehicle volumes, and the high frequency of passing KRL Commuter Line trains caused the traffic to stall.
However, traffic flow became congested again at the red light and U-turn points at the Bendungan Hilir intersection on Jalan Penjernihan I to Jalan Pejompongan.
Motorists were even trapped at red lights for two to three cycles because they could not proceed through the intersection.
The sounds of motorcycle and car horns echoed along the road, accompanied by light drizzle still falling.
The worst congestion point occurred on Jalan Pejompongan, specifically in the area in front of Menara BNI, due to a buildup of vehicles heading towards the Slipi flyover.
The surging vehicle volume after the rain caused severe traffic jams on the flyover area, both from the direction of Pejompongan and Jalan Gatot Subroto in front of the DPR RI building.
From atop the flyover, the red glow of vehicle tail lights filled the view due to the congestion extending to Jalan Letjen S. Parman towards Grogol.
Not only that, traffic flow from the Jalan Tentara Pelajar area in Palmerah towards Slipi also experienced severe congestion.
This congestion occurred due to a buildup of vehicles on Jalan Letjen S. Parman from various directions.
Yosafat (30), an online motorcycle taxi passenger who alighted in front of the Transjakarta Slipi Petamburan halt, felt the congestion occurring throughout the Central to West Jakarta area.
