Tanah Abang Market Activity Increases, Visitors Reach 15,000 Per Day
Trading activity at the Tanah Abang wholesale centre, Central Jakarta, is showing a positive trend. Management has noted a significant increase in the number of visitors crowding the Block A and Block B areas recently.
The Manager of the Tanah Abang Large Market Unit (UPB), Rahmat Kartolo, revealed that average daily visits have now reached tens of thousands. This serves as a strong signal of the returning economic vitality in Southeast Asia’s largest textile market.
“The increase in the number of buyers is clearly visible and continuing to rise. It is recorded that almost every day, 15,000 visitors enter the Block A and Block B areas of the market,” Rahmat stated in Jakarta on Sunday.
In addition to domestic buyers, Rahmat mentioned that trading activity is now being enlivened by the presence of international tourists. Tourists from Malaysia are one of the most dominant groups visiting to shop for various fashion products and other necessities.
This surge in visitors was actually visible since the momentum of major religious holidays. During the period leading up to the recent Eid al-Fitr, the number of visits even briefly exceeded 30,000 people per day.
To improve visitor comfort, management continues to implement kiosk zoning arrangements. This step is taken to make it easier for buyers to find specific products, such as dedicated areas for sports jerseys and various other types of apparel.
Not only focusing on face-to-face transactions, Tanah Abang Market is also beginning to adapt to technological developments. Management now provides supporting facilities for traders operating online. This move is expected to balance conventional and digital trading patterns, ensuring the business ecosystem in Tanah Abang remains relevant to current market needs. Rahmat hopes this upward trend in visitors will continue to further stimulate the economic engine in the area.
