Tambora National Park Confirms Three Fire Hotspots on Mount Tambora Extinguished

Tambora National Park (Balai TN Tambora) has stated that three hotspots detected in the Mount Tambora area, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), are not dangerous and have now been extinguished.

Head of Administration at Balai TN Tambora, Kriswoyo, said the hotspots were located inside the caldera area, not from outside the grassland zone. Therefore, information suggesting the hotspots originated from grass fires is incorrect.

“The points are inside the magma chamber, the hotspots are lava within the caldera,” Kriswoyo told detikBali on Tuesday (25/8/2026).

According to him, the certainty of the hotspots was confirmed by officers who descended into the caldera. Kriswoyo emphasised that there were indeed several hotspots from around the magma, but they have been successfully extinguished.

The current seasonal weather conditions make it easier for hotspots to be detected by the application used by volcano monitoring officers. However, these hotspots are not dangerous.

To date, there are no longer any hotspots as were found on Monday (25/8/2026). In fact, the application used by TN Tambora shows zero hotspots.

“The team has gone down there, checked the sulphur smell, it was so hot that it was detected. But yesterday it was already extinguished. In our application, even if someone burns rubbish at home, it will automatically be monitored as a hotspot,” he explained.

Kriswoyo confirmed that the Tambora Jungle Run event, scheduled for 30 August 2026 at Tambora National Park, will not be disrupted by the findings. The event has even received a recommendation from the volcanology team of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

“We met with the volcanology team yesterday, they recommended it is safe and the Tambora Jungle Run event will proceed,” he said.
