Taman Sari project enters second phase
YOGYAKARTA: The Yogyakarta municipal government and Jogja
Heritage Society (JHS) launched on Monday the second phase of a
restoration project for the endangered heritage site of Taman
Sari water palace within the Yogyakarta Palace compound.
The restoration was made possible through a US$250,000
donation from the U.S.-based Robert W. Wilson Challenge to
Conserve Our Heritage Foundation, said JHS executive director
Titi Handayani.
The Taman Sari, built under the reign of Sultan Hamengkubuwono
I hundreds of years ago, is on the World Monument Fund's list,
the World's 100 Most Endangered Sites 2004. The first phase of
restoration was launched in January. -- JP
