Taman Puring Market traders offered relocation to Cidodol and Mampang Markets

Traders at Taman Puring Market, South Jakarta, say they were offered relocation to Cidodol Market and Mampang Market amid plans to rebuild the market following a fire in 2025. “Cidodol is for vegetables and meat, and Mampang is quiet,” said Asmun, Coordinator of Taman Puring Market stalls. Asmun stressed that the traders do not oppose relocation per se, but want certainty regarding the rebuilding of Taman Puring Market. He said traders were asked to move to several locations with the aim of expediting the permit process for rebuilding the market. “Indeed we were told to relocate to several locations on the condition that the rebuilding of Taman Puring Market would be accelerated,” he said. However, traders were shocked when information emerged that the area would be converted into a park by the South Jakarta City Government. “The fact is, when we were going to move, there was news that it would not be made a Taman Puring Market,” he said. Meanwhile, a trader of athletic shoes named Soleh hopes the Taman Puring site will be rebuilt as a market so traders can resume normal trading. “My hope is for this site to be rebuilt as a market, to be rebuilt, and I urge the authorities, the Governor, and the Mayor to build the market,” Soleh said. Currently, 180 traders remain at the site of the former fire on Monday (28 July 2025). Before the incident, Taman Puring Market housed more than 500 traders. Earlier, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo approved the proposal by South Jakarta Mayor Muhammad Anwar to build a disability garden on the Taman Puring site. He asked that the application for the disability garden be submitted before 1 June 2026. He also urged the DKI Jakarta Development Assistant to allocate funding for the garden so it can be built soon.
