Taman Kebon Jeruk

Taman Kebon Jeruk

From Kompas

We have lived at the Intercon housing complex in Taman Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, for the past seven years. During the recent Idul Fitri holidays we went away and left our house empty. Upon our return we discovered that our house had been burglarized via the roof. The tiles had not been replaced by the thieves and so great quantities of rain water had entered our house.

When we reported the burglary to the security office we were asked why we had not informed them of our plan to leave town. We said we had advised them properly. The security officer on duty retorted that he had not received a copy of the report. It was a very unprofessional explanation from the management office of a housing complex class of Taman Kebon Jeruk.

Meanwhile, we have heard that 12 houses were burglarized in the housing complex during February. We feel that Taman Kebon Jeruk is a very unsafe housing area because it is full of marauders and that there is lack of coordination among the security personnel.

What is the role of the Intercon Estate developer, which collects a monthly contribution of between Rp 20,000 and Rp 60,000 from each house to organize security personnel and garbage collection? The latter, by the way, is very irregular, leaving heaps of garbage uncollected in the area.
