TAM records 40.4% rise in sales

JAKARTA: Giant automotive manufacturer PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) recorded a 40.4 percent increase in sales in the year's first nine months to 140,085 units from 99,790 in the same period last year.

January-September domestic automotive sales also increased by 26.1 percent to 439,804 units.

The result, TAM said in a statement, left the local unit of Japanese automotive giant Toyota Motor Corp. leading the domestic automotive market with a share of 31.9 percent.

With a market share of 40.5 percent, TAM led the multipurpose vehicle segment thanks to its Avanza and Kijang Innova models with 40,931 and 64,001 units respectively.

Its Vios, Altis and Camry models also helped the company to lead in the sedan market segment with 3,600, 1,755 and 1,606 units respectively.

"TAM remains upbeat that this year's target of reaching a 30% market share can be achieved," the firm said in the statement. -- JP
