Talismans no help to illegal job-seekers
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): Fifty-five Indonesian job-seekers put
their hope on talismans to help them sneak into Malaysia, but
their attempt was foiled by marine police, a report said Friday.
The 55, including six women, were detained late Wednesday
after getting off a boat at Port Klang outside of Kuala Lumpur,
The Star said.
Each of the Indonesians, aged between 16 and 50, were found
carrying either an animal tooth or other strange objects said to
possess mystical powers, the daily said.
"They were made to believe that carrying talisman will help
them to evade the authorities," Zakaria Embi of the marine police
said.
They would be sent to a detention camp to await deportation,
he added.
