Tako to hold national c'ships
MEDAN, South Sumatra: The Tako school of karate is expecting some 400 of its karateka (fighters) will take part in its national championships to be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Medan Youth Center here.
Chairman of the Indonesian Karate-do Federation (Forki), Luhut Panjaitan is slated to open the championship.
"The championships will also serve as the selection to appoint our karateka to take part in the 2002 Army Chief of Staff (Kasad) Cup," vice chairman of the organizing committee, Rajamin Sirait, told The Jakarta Post on Wednesday.
"The Kasad Cup will then select our national karateka for the Busan 2002 Asian Games."
The participants are from seven chapters and several dojo (clubs) which have yet to establish a Tako chapter. -- JP
