Taking responsibility
The Indonesian press have focused on alleged corruption at the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) as well as in the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) and Bank Indonesia (the central bank) -- three state agencies that have a strategic role, under both routine and critical circumstances.
The alleged graft in Bulog involves its former chief, Beddu Amang, who has been accused of misusing an animal feed fund of Rp 841 billion (US$100.2 million).
In the other case, that of state funds in account no. 502, former BI governor, Sjahrir Sabirin, and former IBRA chief, I Putu Ary Suta, have been accused of misusing government funds totaling Rp 20.908 trillion.
Ordinary people have welcomed efforts by law enforcers to follow up audit reports that show irregularities in the two graft cases.
The public understand that this nation badly needs honest bureaucrats, who realize that everything they do will affect the nation's life.
The public are awaiting developments in the investigation of these two graft cases, hoping that those involved will be held responsible.
