Takeda Invests IDR 539 Billion to Develop Plasma Ecosystem in Indonesia
Japanese biopharmaceutical company Takeda is investing USD 30 million, equivalent to IDR 539 billion, to build a plasma-derived medicinal products (PODP) ecosystem in Indonesia. The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) stated that this capital represents the initial phase of developing the national plasma industry over two years. The funds are allocated to establish a plasma bank network, which will serve as the foundation for the plasma-derived medicinal products industry in the country.
Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM Rosan Roeslani explained that Takeda’s move reflects strong global investor confidence in Indonesia’s healthcare sector. “This is a strategic investment that not only brings additional capital but also opens up opportunities for technology transfer, human resource development, and the creation of high-skilled jobs. The government continues to encourage investments that provide added value and strengthen national industrial capacity so that Indonesia can become a manufacturing and healthcare innovation hub in the region,” Rosan said in an official statement on Tuesday (14/7/2026).
Rosan noted that this collaboration aligns with the government’s downstreaming programme, which is now expanding into the healthcare sector to enhance competitiveness and strengthen Indonesia’s position in the global supply chain. He mentioned that Japan has consistently been a strategic investment partner for Indonesia. According to BKPM data, Japan ranked fifth among the largest investors in Indonesia in the first quarter of 2026, with a realisation of USD 1 billion. The accumulated investment from Japan from 2021 to the first quarter of 2026 reached USD 18.1 billion, growing at an average rate of 13.2 percent and absorbing 299,460 workers. The government hopes that Takeda’s investment will expand public access to plasma-derived medicinal products while fostering a more competitive national biopharmaceutical industry. The development of a national plasma network with global standards is targeted to begin operating its first plasma bank by 2027.
