Take Note: Rules for Breaking the Fast on Board the MRT

JAKARTA – Caught on the MRT when it is time to break the fast? PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) permits passengers to drink plain water and consume dates after the Maghrib call to prayer to break their fast on board.

The policy represents a special exemption from the MRT’s standard rules prohibiting eating and drinking during journeys. During the month of Ramadan, the state-owned rapid transit operator accommodates Muslim passengers who find themselves in transit at the time of iftar (the evening meal to break the fast).

Passengers are advised, however, that the exemption is limited specifically to plain water and dates, in keeping with the traditional manner of breaking the fast. Other food and beverages remain prohibited on the MRT system.
