Takbiran Procession in Mataram Limited Until 10 PM
Mataram City Police Headquarters (Polresta) together with relevant stakeholders are preparing security measures for the Eid and Nyepi nights in 2026, which are predicted to occur simultaneously. Takbiran processions have been limited until 10 PM, whilst ogoh-ogoh parades have been restricted until 6 PM Wita (Central Indonesian Time).
“(Takbiran processions) are limited in time, they must not exceed 10 PM,” said Mataram Polresta Commander, Brigadier General Hendro Purwoko, on Friday (13 March 2026).
“For ogoh-ogoh parades, we have already informed Mataram City Government and the committee, there are restrictions. In other words, by 6 PM everything must be completed. This way, we can carry out our respective religious obligations properly,” he added.
Hendro explained that takbiran processions will only be conducted per sub-district if Eid night and Nyepi fall on the same day. Furthermore, takbiran processions in Mataram will not use four- and three-wheeled vehicles.
“Furthermore, they will not pass through locations that are predominantly inhabited by Hindu worshippers in Mataram,” said Hendro.
“We are still awaiting the determination from the isbat (Islamic court decision) regarding one Shawwal. However, we have already prepared a framework together with the city government, which has issued a circular or regulation regarding the implementation of takbiran should it coincide with the Nyepi celebration of our Hindu friends,” he continued.
A number of personnel will be deployed at various points to maximise security during both celebrations. According to Hendro, security operations also involve pecalang (Balinese security volunteers) and the military. He urged Mataram residents to maintain public order and respect one another.
“We hope that we all maintain harmony and respect,” he concluded.
