Taj Yasin States Sexual Harassment Case Against Female Students at Pati Islamic Boarding School Has Been Monitored Since 2024
Central Java Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen has affirmed that his administration will see through to completion the case of sexual violence involving an individual with the initials AS, a caregiver at the Ndolo Kusumo Islamic boarding school in Pati Regency. In addition to ensuring the legal process proceeds smoothly, Taj Yasin has prioritised the future and continuity of education for the victims.
The harassment case, which allegedly affected 50 victims, has provoked strong public reaction. According to Taj Yasin, the case had been under monitoring since 2024 but has only now come to light. He commended the courage of the victims and the support from community elements and NU organisations that worked together to bring the facts to public attention.
“We appreciate the community that moved together to encourage the victims to speak out boldly,” said Gus Yasin in Semarang on Thursday, 7 May 2026.
He explained that the Central Java Provincial Government is currently optimising the Empowered Subdistrict Programme as the frontline for protecting vulnerable residents. This programme focuses on legal assistance for children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
Not only in Islamic boarding schools, but these preventive measures also target public schools. Through an early health detection scheme, the Central Java Provincial Government conducts screenings to uncover potential sexual violence or bullying in educational environments.
In response to the fact that the majority of victims come from impoverished and orphaned families, the Deputy Governor has provided full assurances regarding their access to education. He does not want past trauma to hinder the aspirations of the survivors.
“Insyaallah, we are committed to providing free schooling costs for all those who cannot afford it,” stated the Deputy Governor.
‘Tilik Pesantren’
Regarding supervision in Islamic boarding school environments, the Central Java Provincial Government is collaborating extensively with the Rabithah Ma’ahid al-Islamiyah (RMI) through the Tilik Pesantren programme. This programme regularly educates caregivers at Islamic boarding schools on preventing violence against women and children.
“Tomorrow, on 10 May, through RMI Putri, we will again collaborate in Banjarnegara to inspect Islamic boarding schools in the western Central Java region,” he added.
In terms of regulations, Gus Yasin noted that Central Java already has a Family Resilience Regional Regulation. This regulation will be evaluated and strengthened to serve as the legal umbrella for protection against violence in family and educational institution environments.
