Taj Yasin Assists with School Collapse in Sragen, Three Classrooms Repaired Simultaneously

Shards of roof tiles still litter the classroom floor, while the wooden roof frame appears collapsed and the windowpanes are shattered under the fallen debris. Police tape remains in place around the three affected classrooms following the school roof collapse on Tuesday (12/5). During the inspection, Taj Yasin toured the damaged classrooms while listening to explanations from school officials and the technical team. He assured that the government does not want students’ learning activities to be halted for too long due to the incident. “Today I am assessing what is needed. One of them is desks for studying. Insha’Allah, the Education Office just needs to complete the administration, and we will send them immediately. Learning must not stop,” said Taj Yasin in a written statement on Thursday (14/5/2026). He stated that the Central Java Provincial Government aims to carry out the roof repairs soon so that learning activities can return to normal in the near future. In addition to the collapsed room, the three classrooms in the same building structure will also be repaired at once. “The one that collapsed is indeed one, but these three classrooms must all be repaired. We are ready to help. The Education Office has prepared Rp 50 million; the needs just need to be coordinated. No need for complications,” he said. Taj Yasin assessed that the incident serves as an important reminder of the need for regular checks on school buildings, particularly the roof structures and supporting wooden materials that are prone to rotting due to age or termite attacks. “We saw that many wooden parts have been affected by termites. This indeed requires serious attention. The most important thing is actually control from the school side, so that similar incidents do not recur,” he said. Meanwhile, Sragen Regent Sigit Pamungkas stated that his side immediately took action after the incident occurred. He also ensured that all victims receive medical treatment. “The cost of treatment for the victims is fully covered by the Sragen Regency Government,” said Sigit. The Sragen Regency Government is also coordinating with Muhammadiyah, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and the Central Java Provincial Government regarding the acceleration of rebuilding the damaged classrooms. “We just discussed with Mr. Deputy Governor about the division of assistance portions so that construction can be carried out immediately and the classrooms can be used again quickly,” he revealed. Sigit emphasised that the renovation will not only be done on the one collapsed classroom but on all three classrooms in the building to make them safer to use. In addition, the Sragen Regency Government will also assist in fulfilling the needs of damaged furniture and learning equipment due to the incident. He assessed that there are many schools with damaged building conditions that need to be evaluated immediately to prevent similar incidents from recurring. “In general, there are quite a few damaged and unfit schools in various places. This will be an evaluation to prioritise their handling,” he said. Based on the initial technical team examination, the school building actually still looks quite good from the outside. However, the roof structure is deemed no longer feasible due to age factors. “So what needs to be checked is the existing condition of the building, how far it is still feasible or not. From the wall side, it’s actually still good; only the roof structure is no longer feasible,” Sigit concluded. For information, the roof of the classroom at MTs Muhammadiyah 4 Bulu collapsed on Tuesday (12/5/2026) around 07:30 WIB while learning activities were ongoing. As a result, seven students and one teacher sustained injuries and had to undergo medical treatment. Learning activities were temporarily suspended and are planned to resume next week. During the renovation process, students will carry out learning activities at the place of worship.
