Taiwanese scholars visit Indonesia

JAKARTA: A small group of scholars from Taiwan arrived in Jakarta on Thursday to strengthen people-to-people relations and enhance academic cooperation with their Indonesian counterparts, the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) said in Jakarta.

During their two-day visit, Prof. Chen Hung Yu from National Chengchi University, Prof. Joyce J. Lin Damchieng from Tamkang University, Prof. Pie Hsiu Chen from Chengchi University and Kwei Bo Huang from Chengchi University are meeting Indonesian scholars from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, the University of Indonesia, the Habibie Center, the National Archives to exchange views on Chinese language, Indonesian culture and international politics.

Prof. Chen, the leader of the group, said a small group of Indonesian students were studying at Taiwanese universities.

"We welcome Indonesian students as well as scholars at our universities. We came here to seek academic exchanges between Taiwanese and Indonesian scholars," Chen said at a media conference in Jakarta on Thursday.

Indonesia does not have diplomatic relations with Taiwan because of the One China Policy. -- JP
