Taiwanese leads at Bali Open
JAKARTA (JP): Lin Keng-chi of Chinese Taipei overcame the
stinging heat and the tough field fired a blistering nine-under
par-63 for a 202 and took over the lead after the third day of
the US$250,000 Sempati Bali Open yesterday.
Hitting a magnificent 10 birdies, the Taiwanese, who does not
speak English, equaled the course record produced by world top
golfer Nick Faldo of England during the Alfred Dunhill Masters
last November.
Lin opened yesterday's round with a birdie followed with a
string of birdie putts in the 3rd, 4th, 5th 7th, 10th, 13th 16th
and 17th.
"Those who took part in the Sampoerna Indonesia Open at
Jakarta's Pantai Indah Kapuk and then playing in Bali hailed the
good course which they find easier," the Indonesia Golf
Association (PGI) secretary said. This, he added, can be seen
from their average score of 70.1.
American Brandt Jobe was two strokes back for second place
after firing a fine 66 for a 204 (66 72 66) tied with compatriot
Eric Meeks, the over night leader. Meeks yesterday carded a poor
71, four shots behind his Thursday's round.
Two shots further back were three-way tie between South Korean
Kim Jong-duck, Glen Joyner of Australia and Mike Welch of England
on 207s.
Indonesia's I Nengah Darma, who becomes the sole local golfer
surviving from the cut off on Thursday, carded a three-day score
of two-under 241 joined by nine other players.
Nengah next Tuesday will return to Japan where he is
undergoing a series of training stint there(rsl).
