Tanjungpinang, Kepulauan Riau (ANTARA News) - A few Taiwanese businesspeople are to explore possibilities of investing in fisheries in Lingga district, Riau province, a local businessman said.

"The Taiwanese investors are very serious and tomorrow they will look at the potentials in Lingga ," Bobby Jayanto, chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin)`s Tanjungpinang branch, said here Wednesday.

He said the Taiwanese investors would explore the possibilities for a second time and an agreement on investment in the industry was expected to be signed in the near future.

"In the early stages, live fish will be exported to Hong Kong and China," Bobby said.

He said the Taiwanese investors would visit Lingga district to take samples of such fish species as grouper and snapper.

Lingga district was chosen by the Taiwanese investors because it has great potentials and its sea was still clean and uncontaminated, Bobby said.

"Lingga has also been declared a COREMAP area, meaning it has great fishery potential," he said.

According to Bobby, the Taiwanese investment would have a positive impact on the local economy because it would create job opportunities and support Riau`s vision and mission to focus on the marine and fishery sectors.

"In the future there will be technology transfer from the investors to the local people," Bobby said.(*)
