TAIPEI (Reuters): Taiwan's top economic policy maker will lead a business delegation on a visit to Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines next month to show concern over currency turmoil in those countries, local newspapers said yesterday.
Chiang Ping-kun, chairman of the cabinet's Council for Economic Planning and Development, would be accompanied by executives from Taiwan's manufacturing and finance industries who organized the 10-day trip, the newspapers said.
The trip, which begins January 11, will exclude South Korea, which switched diplomatic ties from Taiwan to the island's archrival China in 1992, the newspapers said.
Government officials were not immediately available for comment.
