Taiwan may ban helpers from RP
TAIPEI (AFP): Taiwan yesterday said it may impose a ban on Filipino domestic helpers if the Philippines does not back down on new employment requirements making Taiwanese employers declare their financial conditions.
"The requirements were unilaterally made by the Philippines and were unreasonable. Why on the earth would I have to declare my financial condition to you," Tsai Shiann-liow, vice chairman of the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA), said in a comment directed toward the Philippine government.
If the Philippine government insists on doing so, the CLA will consider banning Filipino domestic helpers and private nurses from working here.
CLA officials said every country has its law and policy. It is an intervention into Taiwan's sovereignty to make the requirements without consulting the government here, the officials said.
They said Filipino workers must follow the laws and policies in Taiwan if they want to work here.
