Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Taiwan agro-tourism exhibition titled “Taiwan Leisure Farm Fair 2026” officially opened at Emporium Pluit Mall, North Jakarta, on 22-24 May 2026, adopting the concept of modern rural tourism with the theme “Farm Stay, Fun Stay”. The event entering its second year of operation presents nature-based and sustainable tourism promotions that emphasise slow travel, healing, and rural tourism experiences. Deputy Representative of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Indonesia, Trust H. J. Lin, on the sidelines of the fair on Saturday, said that Indonesia is a potential market for developing Taiwan’s rural tourism due to its large population and the interest of younger generations in travel. “We see travel trends shifting towards slow living, deep travel, and experiences closer to nature. Taiwan wants to offer those experiences through the ‘leisure farm’ concept,” he said. He said Taiwan not only offers urban tourism but also experiences of staying in rural areas, tea plantations, flower gardens, and farm-stay farms that prioritise sustainability and local culture. He added that the number of Indonesian tourists visiting Taiwan’s agro-tourism areas has continued to rise in recent years. “Last year, around 40,000 tourists visited Taiwan’s agro-tourism. This year, we hope to double to around 80,000 to 90,000 visitors,” he said. “There, they not only enjoy nature but also learn about Taiwan’s local culture,” he added. The exhibition is organised by the Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation Agency of the Ministry of Agriculture Taiwan together with the Taiwan Leisure Farm Development Association. The fair featured seven premier Taiwan agritourism farms, three national airlines, and 10 Indonesian travel agencies offering more than 30 themed travel packages. The exhibition area was divided into four main zones: sustainable tourism, fruit-picking tourism, flower tourism, and Taiwan tea tourism. In addition to the exhibition, visitors could participate in interactive activities such as making tea-scented cushions, flower-scented candles, workshops on traditional Taiwanese arts, traditional Taiwanese games, and a prize draw for a round-trip air ticket to Taiwan. Lin added that Taiwan continues to improve Muslim-friendly facilities to reach more Indonesian visitors. “We understand that the majority of Indonesians are Muslim. Therefore, Taiwan’s tourism industry players continue to strengthens Muslim-friendly services, from halal cuisine to accommodation facilities,” he said. He also hopes the event can strengthen Indonesia–Taiwan tourism ties and spur local community economic growth through rural-based tourism.
