Taiwan Awards Scholarships to 86 Outstanding Indonesian Students

TETO Indonesia held a ceremony to present the Taiwan Scholarship and the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education to 86 high-achieving Indonesian students at BINUS University, Jakarta, on Friday (10/7). The scholarship recipients, drawn from various regions of Indonesia, had been selected earlier through a rigorous selection process, competing against more than 1,200 applicants. Both scholarship programmes form part of the Taiwanese government’s commitment to encouraging more Indonesian students to study and pursue professional careers in Taiwan.

In his opening remarks, Bruce Hung, Head of the Taipei Economic and Trade Office (TETO) in Indonesia, stated that Taiwan has become a destination of choice for Indonesian students continuing their studies. He added that this is evidenced by the number of Indonesian students currently studying in Taiwan, which has reached more than 19,000 people. That figure places Indonesian students as the second-largest group of international students in Taiwan, after Vietnam.

Also attending the ceremony was Rini Setiowati, Vice Rector for Collaboration and Global Engagement, representing BINUS University as the event’s hosting partner. Speaking virtually, BINUS University Rector Dr Nelly said that the cooperation with TETO Indonesia was an honour for BINUS University. She expressed hope that collaboration and academic exchange between BINUS University and various educational institutions in Taiwan would continue to be strengthened and grow ever closer.

At the event, the scholarship recipients expressed great pride in receiving scholarships from the Taiwanese government. They also shared their joy at beginning a new chapter of their lives in Taiwan, hoping to broaden their academic horizons, gain new cultural experiences, and improve their Mandarin language skills. They believe that completing their studies in Taiwan will not only enrich their personal development but also strengthen their academic and career prospects in the future.

As is known, each year the Education Division of TETO Indonesia regularly administers two scholarship programmes from Taiwan’s Ministry of Education for Indonesian students: the Taiwan Scholarship programme for undergraduate, master’s and doctoral studies, and a scholarship programme for one year of Mandarin language study in Taiwan. Registration for both scholarship programmes is always open from 1 February to 31 March, and information on the requirements can be downloaded from the official website.
