Tabloid gives food to its distributors

JAKARTA (JP): The weekly tabloid Tekad, in cooperation with
the Tzu Chi Buddhist Foundation, handed over 1,400 food packages
to newspaper sellers in the Greater Jakarta area.

Parni Hadi, chief of the newspaper's editorial board, said the
donation was to show the tabloid's gratitude to the newspaper
sellers for their role in expanding its circulation.

"No publication can exist without the active role of the
newspaper boys and agents," Parni said, adding that his
two-month-old tabloid currently had a circulation of about
100,000.

Wen Yue of the Tzu Chi Foundation said that each package
consisted of 10 kilograms of rice and one kilogram each of sugar
and cooking oil.

Wen said the foundation, which claims to have branches in 29
countries, donated the food, most of it to Muslims, to help those
who were suffering from hardship during the current crisis. (hhr)
