Tabanan Regency Introduces WFH as Fuel Crisis Continues for Days
The Tabanan Regency Government began implementing a work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants on Thursday (15 October). The move comes in response to a fuel supply crisis that has persisted for several days.
Tabanan Regional Secretary I Gede Susila said the WFH policy followed guidance from the Bali Provincial Government. He said it would apply to civil servants in Tabanan from 15 to 17 October 2026.
“We are following the provincial government’s policy on how it should be implemented on the ground,” Susila said on Wednesday (14 October 2026).
The education sector is also adjusting, with schools permitted to move teaching and learning online as needed until fuel supplies return to normal.
“Starting tomorrow and continuing until [fuel supplies] are back to normal,” said Tabanan Education Department head I Gusti Putu Ngurah Darma Utama.
Darma said the policy gives schools flexibility, particularly in addressing transport difficulties faced by teachers travelling to work. However, each school will decide how to conduct online learning.
“Arrangements will be made under school-based management, while continuing to uphold pupils’ right to receive an education,” Darma added.
Several private schools in Tabanan had already moved to online learning, including schools run by the Saraswati and Al Amin foundations.
DetikBali observations showed that fuel shortages were still causing queues of vehicles at several petrol stations in Tabanan. Andre, a local resident, estimated that he would have to queue for up to five hours to obtain fuel at a station on Jalan Bypass Ir Soekarno in Tabanan.
“I’ve been queuing since 1.30pm Central Indonesia Time. I expect it will take up to five hours,” Andre said while waiting for fuel at the station.
