Syuriyah: Rais Aam and PBNU Chairman Agree to Hold NU Congress in Early August 2026

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA – The Rais Aam of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU), KH Miftachul Akhyar, and the Chairman of PBNU have agreed to hold the 35th Congress of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) in early August 2026, following a meeting of senior clerics in Surabaya on Tuesday night (5/5/2026).

“The Rais Aam has urged that the 35th NU Congress be held from 1-5 August 2026, and this has been approved by the Chairman of PBNU,” said the Secretary of Syuriyah PBNU, KH Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir, in a written statement received in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

He explained that a number of senior clerics from the PBNU Syuriyah ranks paid a visit to the residence of PBNU Rais Aam KH Miftachul Akhyar in Surabaya as part of organisational consolidation and support for accelerating the congress preparations.

“The meeting on Tuesday night was part of the deliberations among senior clerics to ensure that the congress runs well, smoothly, and brings benefits to the jam’iyah,” said KH Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir.

Some of the clerics present at the meeting included KH Anwar Iskandar, KH Afifuddin Muhajir, KH Aniq Muhammadun, KH Sadid Jauhari, KH Muhibbul Aman Aly, KH Tonthowi Jauhari Musaddad, and KH Imam Buchori.

KH Ahmad Tajul Mafakhir added that the PBNU Rais Aam had also summoned the Chairman of PBNU to the PBNU office on Wednesday to discuss the technical preparations for the congress.

“The PBNU Rais Aam has requested that technical preparations be completed immediately, so that the 35th NU Congress does not face any obstacles,” he said.
