Damascus – Syria has extended the complete closure of its airspace for 24 hours beginning Monday midnight local time. The country has suspended all takeoffs and landings amid escalating tensions following combined US-Israeli strikes against Iran.

Syria’s Civil Aviation Authority stated that the decision was taken due to the ongoing regional security developments and the need to ensure flight safety. The authority said it would continue monitoring the situation and announce further decisions through official channels.

On Sunday 1 March, falling missile debris wounded four people near Damascus as Israel and Iran exchanged fire over Syrian skies, prompting authorities to extend the national airspace closure. Syrian state media reported that missile remnants landed in the town of Ain Tarma, east of Damascus, injuring a man and his three daughters and causing material damage.

Residents of Damascus also reported hearing multiple repeated explosions in the sky. Local television indicated that the explosions were likely caused by Israeli air defence systems intercepting Iranian missiles as they passed over the region.
