Symbol of Care: Yellow Run 2026 Plants 4,444 Banyan Trees
The Chairman of Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Mukhamad Misbakhun, stated that the planting of 4,444 banyan trees during the Yellow Run 2026 series serves as a symbol of runners’ commitment to the environment. The tree-planting ceremony took place at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) area in Jakarta on Sunday (7/6), attended by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources and Chairman of the Golkar Party, Bahlil Lahadalia, alongside Misbakhun.
Misbakhun noted that the thousands of banyan seedlings represent the contribution of Yellow Run participants who support reforestation programmes through the running event. “You runners have shown care for the environment. The runners have donated 4,4tttt banyan trees,” Misbakhun said while addressing the participants from the stage. He added that the planting is more than just a ceremony; it is a symbol that the running community is attentive to environmental sustainability, noting that the banyan tree is an ideal choice for such an initiative.
A total of 4,444 banyan seedlings were prepared as part of the Yellow Run 2026 environmental programme. These seedlings were purchased using a portion of the participants’ registration fees and will be distributed as reforestation donations to various regions. The banyan tree was selected for its reputation as a shade tree capable of absorbing and storing water reserves. In addition to providing shade, the roots of the banyan tree are recognised for their role in maintaining water availability in the surrounding environment.
The tree planting is one of the key activities in the Yellow Run 2026 series, which carries the theme of a healthy lifestyle combined with environmental awareness. Through this programme, organisers aim to ensure that the benefits of the event extend beyond sports to provide a long-term impact on the environment. In the long term, the thousands of donated banyan seedlings are expected to grow into shade trees that benefit the community and help maintain the surrounding ecosystem balance. The Yellow Run 2026 was held at the East Parking Plaza of Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Jakarta, and was attended by nearly 11,000 participants. In addition to the 5km and 10km running categories, the event featured various social and environmental activities.
