Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) has officially deployed 2,124 students to carry out the 29th Regular Community Service Programme (KKN) and the 2026 Thematic Literacy KKN. This initiative is a concrete effort to assist in the recovery of disaster-affected communities in Aceh.

The deployment of the students took place at the Central Administration Office courtyard of the USK Rectorate in Banda Aceh on Monday (6/7). USK Rector Mirza Tabrani emphasised that KKN is a vital learning instrument for students to understand social realities directly.

‘KKN is a genuine learning space. On campus, students learn theory, but within the community, they learn to understand reality, challenges, and to hone their sense of care and collaborative skills,’ said Mirza.

In his address, the Rector conveyed three key messages to the participants. Firstly, students must uphold the university’s good name by demonstrating integrity and noble character. Secondly, students are asked to work wholeheartedly and prioritise collaboration to create relevant programmes for the residents.

Thirdly, Mirza stressed the importance of maintaining health and safety. ‘I hope all KKN participants return to campus in good health. After the KKN, continue your studies until completion as a responsibility to your parents,’ he added.

The Head of USK’s Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), Taufiq C. Dawood, explained that this KKN carries the theme ‘Strengthening Capacity Development in Disaster Management in Post-Disaster Areas’. This theme was chosen to bolster community resilience in facing potential future disasters.

A total of 2,124 students will be spread across four districts. Approximately 1,300 regular KKN students are focused on Pidie Jaya and Bireuen districts, areas affected by flooding two weeks prior. Meanwhile, the Thematic Literacy KKN is implemented in collaboration with the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia to enhance the community’s reading culture.

‘The presence of students must provide tangible benefits. Accompany the residents, offer solutions according to their needs, and leave a positive impression after the programme concludes,’ concluded Taufiq.
