Switzerland Welcomes Iranian Delegation for Talks on Memorandum of Understanding with the US

Switzerland has stated it welcomes the arrival of an Iranian delegation for discussions related to a memorandum of understanding signed with the United States. “We welcome the arrival of the Iranian delegation in Switzerland,” the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on the social media platform X on Saturday, accompanied by a photograph. The ministry added that the delegation was en route to the town of Burgenstock in the Canton of Nidwalden to discuss the implementation of the memorandum. Pakistan has announced that technical-level talks between the United States and Iran will take place on Sunday in Burgenstock. “Following the signing of the Islamabad Agreement, technical-level talks will be held on 21 June in the town of Burgenstock, Switzerland,” Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. Iran previously announced that a delegation would travel to Switzerland to discuss the implementation of the memorandum and the cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance has also departed Washington to attend the negotiations. Iran and the United States announced that, as part of a negotiation process mediated by Pakistan, the two countries reached a 14-point memorandum on 14 June governing the cessation of war and the resolution of various issues between the two parties through dialogue. The memorandum, referred to as the Islamabad Agreement, came into effect after both parties signed it digitally on 18 June, by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and US President Donald Trump. The agreement includes a number of provisions, such as ending the war, including in Lebanon, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and lifting the US naval blockade against Iran. Following the signing, both parties are expected to promptly begin a 60-day negotiation process on various issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme and the lifting of sanctions, with the aim of reaching a final agreement.
