Swiss National Who Died in Medewi Had Lived in Bali Since January 5th - An Avid Surfer
A foreign national from Switzerland, Piero Guicciardi (34), was found dead in a villa in Medewi Village, Pekutatan District, Jembrana Regency, Bali. The victim had been living in Bali since January 5th, 2026.
Jembrana Police Chief AKBP Kadek Citra Dewi Suparwati said that based on preliminary investigation results, Piero had been staying at the villa since early January and had lived in the Medewi area for more than a month before being found dead. The 34-year-old man was known to have an active lifestyle and enjoyed surfing.
“The victim was known to like surfing and could go surfing at Medewi Beach up to twice a day,” said Citra when confirmed on Thursday (February 26th, 2026).
Police have questioned a number of witnesses to trace the victim’s activities from the time he first arrived until before he was found dead. Witnesses questioned include the victim’s close friends, the villa manager, and the owner of the eatery where the victim was last seen.
“For now, we have gathered information from his friend, then from the accommodation owner, the accommodation staff, including the eatery he last visited,” added Citra.
The testimonies of these witnesses are being collected to map out the victim’s health condition and activities before he was found dead in his room. Although the investigation is ongoing, police have not yet been able to conclude the medical cause of Piero’s death. The autopsy process is still pending permission from the family.
Based on coordination with the consulate, the victim’s parents are currently taking care of the travel administration to Bali.
“We are still waiting for the arrival of his parents for the autopsy. Information is that they are still in the process of arranging passports,” said Citra.
Previously, a Swiss national, GP (35), was found dead in one of the hotels in the Medewi area, Pekutatan District, Jembrana Regency, Bali. The victim was found lifeless last night.
Police received a report of the incident at around 7:00 PM local time. In response to the report, the Jembrana Police immediately went to the location to check and process the crime scene.
“That’s right, we received information about a foreign national male who died. The team then immediately carried out a crime scene investigation,” said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jembrana Police, AKP I Gede Alit Darmana, when confirmed by detikBali on Monday (February 23rd, 2026).
