Moscow (ANTARA) — Restrictions on Russian diplomatic movement in Switzerland are said to create new logistical obstacles amid efforts to negotiate a resolution to the Ukraine conflict.

This was stated by Russia’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Sergey Garmonin, as quoted by news agency RIA Novosti on Friday (27 February).

The Swiss government announced on Wednesday (25 February) that it would adopt all measures in the European Union’s 19th sanctions package against Russia beginning 26 February, including restrictions on Russian diplomatic movement.

“Swiss authorities have sent this open signal to our country in the midst of ongoing negotiations regarding a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, whilst simultaneously creating additional logistical obstacles for Russian diplomats,” said Garmonin.

Geneva previously hosted tripartite negotiations between Russia, the United States and Ukraine on 17–18 February.

However, following Switzerland’s latest policy, a diplomatic source suggested that the next round of negotiations would likely be relocated to another location outside Geneva.
