Swatantra Road Repairs in South Bekasi Cause Traffic Congestion; Alternating Closure System Implemented
Severe traffic congestion occurred on Jalan Swatantra in South Bekasi as a result of road and drainage channel improvement works. Authorities implemented an alternating closure system at the work site to regulate traffic flow.
Observations at the location on Tuesday, 27 February 2026, showed congestion stretching from the Pekayon direction towards Jatiasih and vice versa. The partial road closure required vehicles to alternate passage, assisted by personnel from the Transportation Department (Dishub) and local residents.
“We are attempting traffic engineering measures, so we are not closing the road completely, but instead closing half the road with alternating traffic flow, assisted by Dishub,” said Michael Arcos, Technical Implementation Officer (PPTK) of the Pekayon Raya-Pondok Gede Road Improvement Project, when contacted by detikcom on Friday, 27 February 2026.
“And of course, we also educate the local community that to achieve maximum results, we will inevitably be confronted with prolonged traffic congestion,” he added.
To accelerate the works, Bekasi City Government is employing fast-track concrete technology. This technology allows concrete to harden significantly faster compared to conventional methods.
“We are using concrete that dries quickly—it hardens within 24 hours. Our target is that it can be traversed normally within three days. Conventional concrete can take up to two weeks,” Arcos explained.
Authorities are targeting completion of the 310-metre road repairs before the Lebaran holiday exodus. This is to facilitate residents’ mobility during the Lebaran holiday period and return traffic.
“For the concrete pouring and drainage work on Swatantra, our target is completion by 10 March,” he added.
