Swarnacitta Marks 20 Years of Plaza Ambarrukmo, Set to Break Two MURI Records
As it enters its 20th year, Plaza Ambarrukmo marks a long journey marked by challenges and resilience. The shopping centre, located in a heritage area, has evolved beyond a mere commercial space into a gathering place for multiple generations.
General Manager Plaza Ambarrukmo, M Ferra Devi, announced that the 20-year celebration under the theme Swarnacitta represents a soul of golden value, symbolising sincerity, warmth, and the spirit of unity across time. The management has organised special events, including attempts to break two Museum Rekor-Dunia Indonesia (MURI) records: ‘Longest Non-Stop Shadow Puppet Theatre Performance in a Shopping Centre’ and ‘Largest Offering of Legomoro’.
The shadow puppet theatre performance will run for 20 hours continuously on Wednesday, 4 March 2026 from 14:00 to Thursday, 5 March 2026 at 10:00 at the Roof Space of Plaza Ambarrukmo. The performance will feature 20 puppeteers, 20 singers, and 20 meaningful wayang stories. “This is the first time this has been done in Indonesia, specifically in a shopping centre,” Devi stated.
The celebrations will continue with Grebeg 5,306 Gunungan Legomoro on Thursday, 5 March 2026 at 16:00 WIB at Alun-Alun Ambarrukmo. Legomoro is a traditional Kotagede delicacy dating from the 17th century, made from glutinous rice filled with beef and chicken, wrapped in banana leaves, and bound with bamboo rope.
“This will break the MURI record for the largest offering of legomoro at 5,306 pieces. These will be arranged into a pyramid and paraded by a 40-member brigade,” Devi explained. The pyramid will then be raided or contested by the community as a symbol of blessing and unity. The number 5,306 symbolises the founding date of Plaza Ambarrukmo, 5 March 2006.
The events will conclude with the MURI record presentation at 19:00 WIB, followed by entertainment from national singer Idgitaf. Other attractions include Pasar Wiguna featuring local artisans, art collaborations with Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University and Christian Duta Wacana University, special shopping programmes such as The Tasty Twenty, Modest Style Runway, Late Night Sale, Glam Meet Up Festival by Elzatta, and Ambarrukmo ShopFest 2026.
To enhance the festivities, 500 balloons filled with prizes such as vouchers, bicycles, iftar meal packages, electronic appliances, and other rewards will be released simultaneously in the Main Atrium. The celebrations will also feature performances by Marcell Siahaan and Rizky Febian. “Through Swarnacitta, Plaza Ambarrukmo not only celebrates 20 years of operations, but also presents a space of unity that brings together culture, creativity, and generations in one celebration of a soul of golden value,” Devi concluded.
