Competition in the Low Sport Utility Vehicle (LSUV) class in the Indonesian automotive market is intensifying with the arrival of Suzuki’s latest vehicle, the XL7 hybrid. Beyond mere cosmetic updates, this environmentally friendly vehicle has been supported by several improvements in design, technology, and the latest safety features to support the mobility of active users.

“One of our goals in introducing these changes is to ensure our products remain relevant to our consumers,” said Donny Sapram, Deputy Managing Director of PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales, during an interview at ICE BSD, Tangerang. The latest Suzuki XL7 is now equipped with a 360-degree camera feature, which is believed to assist users when manoeuvring in restricted or narrow lanes. This new feature is considered highly relevant, given that the vehicle’s user base is dominated by women, reaching approximately 50 per cent according to Suzuki’s data.

Another feature providing direct benefits to users is the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). This allows drivers to monitor tyre pressure in real-time, ensuring optimal pressure. This condition not only contributes to fuel efficiency but also helps extend tyre life and maintain vehicle stability. Additionally, the vehicle features an Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Hill Hold Control for automatic transmissions, rear parking sensors, and dual SRS airbags as primary safety equipment.

In terms of dimensions, the Suzuki XL7 remains unchanged, with a length of 4,450 mm, width of 1,775 mm, height of 1,710 mm, a wheelbase of 2,740 mm, and 200 mm of ground clearance. Internally, the XL7 incorporates features designed to enhance user comfort, including cruise control, a keyless push-start button, automatic climate control, a ventilated cup holder, and new ornaments on the centre console and steering wheel to provide a more premium cabin feel. To support driving comfort, the XL7 features a 9-inch infotainment screen supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The audio system also features Arkamys Sound Processing software to optimise sound quality within the cabin.

Regarding specifications, the XL7 continues to rely on the 1,462 cc K15B petrol engine and Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology for the hybrid variant. The engine produces approximately 104.7 PS and 138 Nm of torque, paired with a choice of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. The spacious cabin with a seven-passenger configuration remains a key selling point for families requiring flexible space.

When compared to the Honda BR-V, both compete in the seven-passenger Low SUV segment. While the BR-V offers a 1,500 cc DOHC i-VTEC engine with higher power at approximately 121 PS and a performance-oriented CVT, the Suzuki XL7 holds an advantage with its light hybrid technology focused on fuel efficiency. The addition of the 360-degree camera and TPMS provides added value for daily urban driving, particularly in areas with limited parking.

Alongside product updates, Suzuki has prepared various sales programmes and entertainment during GIIAS 2024. Consumers have the opportunity to obtain shopping vouchers of up to Rp2 million for certain models, as well as chances to enter lucky draws for precious metals and a Suzuki GSX-R150 motorcycle. In the after-sales sector, discounts are available for Suzuki Genuine Parts and accessories.

In Indonesia, the flagship Suzuki XL7 New Alpha Hybrid AT is priced at Rp327.7 million for the Single Tone version and Rp329.7 million for the Two Tone version. The Suzuki XL7 New Beta Hybrid is priced at Rp312.9 million (A/T) and Rp301.9 million (M/T), while the Suzuki XL7 New Zeta starts from Rp285.3 million (A/T) to Rp274.3 million (M/T).
