Suzuki denies relocation plan
JAKARTA: PT Indomobil Suzuki International denied on Monday a
news report saying it would relocate its manufacturing plant from
Indonesia to Sri Lanka.
"In my opinion, it is not logical to relocate the car
manufacturing plant from Indonesia to Sri Lanka," Gunadi
Sindhuwinata, managing director of PT Indomobil Suzuki
International told The Jakarta Post.
Dow Jones reported on Monday that Suzuki Motor Corp. would
relocate its Indonesian car manufacturing plant to Sri Lanka.
The report quoted Sri Lanka's commerce and consumer affairs
minister Ravi Karunanayake after a visit to Japan.
Gunadi, however, said that his office had been unable to
confirm the report with its headquarters in Japan.
"We can't confirm the report because our headquarters in Japan
is closed due to holidays," said Gunadi.
He said 65,000 Suzuki cars, 450,000 Suzuki motorcycles are
sold every year in Indonesia.--JP
