JAKARTA - Suzuki Motor Corporation has officially acquired the all-solid-state lithium-ion battery business from Kanadevia Corporation. This step was announced directly by Suzuki’s President, Toshihiro Suzuki, in early March 2026. The acquisition encompasses the entire development of technology, design, and sales, and will take effect from 1 July 2026. However, the transaction value has not been disclosed to the public. Kanadevia has been developing solid-state batteries since 2006. This technology is claimed to offer advantages in terms of safety, environmental resilience, and the ability to operate optimally in various extreme temperatures. Technically, solid-state batteries replace liquid electrolytes with solid materials. This technology has the potential to deliver higher energy density, faster charging times, and lower fire risks. To date, Suzuki has not revealed concrete plans from this acquisition. However, their two-wheeled electric vehicle lineup remains limited, one of which is the e-Address electric scooter with a 3.07 kWh battery and a range of around 80 kilometres.
