Jakarta (ANTARA) - The candidate for the Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), Komjen Pol. Suyudi Ario Seto, stated that fact-based criticism from the public serves as an early warning system for the National Police to identify various matters that need immediate rectification.

“We continue to receive criticism and public complaints. To me, this is not something that should be hidden,” said Suyende during his fitness and propriety test at Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday.

According to the Head of the National Narcotics Board (BNN) of Indonesia, the transformation of the National Police—whether structurally, instrumentally, or most importantly, culturally—is not an easy task.

However, he noted that improvements must continue with the courage to view the institution’s deficiencies clearly, while simultaneously maintaining and expanding the various achievements established by his predecessors.

Suyudi also viewed the existence of the Commission for the Acceleration of National Police Reform as a vital momentum to expedite the improvement of the National Police institution.

According to him, this reform is not intended to weaken the police, but rather to strengthen professionalism, accountability, service quality, and the closeness of the police to the community.

The Commission for the Acceleration of National Police Reform was established in 2025, with its membership appointed under Presidential Decree Number 122/P of 2025 regarding the Appointment of Membership for the Commission for the Acceleration of National Police Reform.

The commission, chaired by Jimly Asshiddiqie, submitted its final report and recommendations regarding the improvement of the police institution to President Prabowo Subianto on 5 May 2026.

Previously, Commission III of the DPR RI held a fitness and propriety test for Suyudi as a candidate for National Police Chief to replace General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The fitness and propriety test was opened to the public at the DPR RI Building, Jakarta, on Thursday at 09:10 WIB by the Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI, Habiburokhman.

Suyudi is the sole candidate for National Police Chief proposed by President Prabowo Subianto to the DPR RI.

Before opening the meeting, Habiburokhman stated that the leadership of the DPR RI received a letter from the President regarding the proposal for the dismissal and appointment of the National Police Chief on Wednesday (30/9).
