Suyatno Appointed as Acting Chairman of Magetan Regency DPRD

Acting Secretary of the Magetan DPRD (Sekwan), Yok Sujarwadi, stated that Suyatno, the First Deputy Chairman of the Magetan DPRD, has been appointed as Acting Chairman of the Magetan DPRD after the local DPRD Chairman, Suratno, was designated as a suspect by the prosecutor’s office. Yok explained that the appointment resulted from a consultation among the DPRD leadership, comprising Suyatno, formerly the First Deputy Chairman from PDI Perjuangan, Second Deputy Chairman Pangayoman from Demokrat, and Third Deputy Chairman Puthut Pujiono from Gerindra. “The outcome of the meeting and leadership consultation is the appointment of Mr Suyatno as the acting chairman of the council,” Yok told reporters in Magetan on Friday. He elaborated that the acting chairman will perform the same functions as the permanent chairman, including leading plenary sessions, coordinating with the local leadership coordination forum (forkopimda), and carrying out the DPRD’s daily administrative tasks. “It is temporary while awaiting the legal process or the nominating party to appoint a new permanent chairman,” he said. In the case, investigators uncovered various irregularities from the planning stage to the disbursement of the budget, with strong indications pointing to manipulation practices involving several parties. Suspect Suratno is currently detained at the Magetan Detention Centre by the local prosecutor’s office for 20 days, effective from 23 April 2026.
