Suwardwiyono, Sinta best athletes

JAKARTA: Suwardwiyono and Sinta Berliana Heru were named the
best athletes in the men's and women's divisions, respectively,
at the just concluded 3rd LG Cup national tae kwon do
championships.

The honors were announced by Adrian Lumowa, the secretary-
general of the Indonesian Tae Kwon Do Association, here on
Monday. The four-day LG Cup, which featured athletes from 26
provinces, ended on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Suwardwiyono, who competed for East
Kalimantan, defeated veteran Charles Assa in the welterweight
final, making East Kalimantan the only team from outside of Java
to win a gold medal.

Sinta, who was a gold medalist at the 1999 Southeast Asian
Games, led her West Java team to a defense of its championship
title with her victory in the welterweight division. Sinta's was
one of nine golds won by West Java. --JP
