Suwandi, Fahmi cruise on
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesian tennis player Suwandi defeated fellow countryman Sebastian Da Costa 6-1, 6-1 and cruised to the second round of the Extra Joss Men's Future-3 at Kemayoran Tennis Center on Monday.
Indonesian hopeful Hendri Susilo Pramono, however, lost to third seed Per Thornadtsson of Sweden 1-6, 1-6. Thornadtsson will face Suwandi in the US$15,000 event on Wednesday.
On another court, Yusmawan Fahmi, also from Indonesia, worked hard to beat Johan Du Randt of South Africa 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 6-2. Fahmi will challenge eighth seed Leigh Holland of Australia, who beat Park Seung-kyu of South Korea 6-0, 6-1 on Monday.
First seed Danai Udomchoke of Thailand also breezed to the second round after an easy 6-1, 6-2 victory over Marcin Matkowski of Poland. Udomchoke will play Le Minh of the United States, who beat wild card holder Supanya Apaipun of Thailand 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
Sixth seed Alan Mackin from England retired in the second set after leading 6-4, handing victory to Tasuku Iwami of Japan. Iwami will play Lee Seung-hun of South Korea, who defeated qualifier Gabriel Ledru of France 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1).
Eight more first-round matches will be staged on Tuesday. (ivy)
