Suu Kyi in property suit
YANGON (AP): A Myanmar judge ruled on Monday that opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi can contest a lawsuit brought by her brother over ownership of the Yangon house where she lives.
Judge Soe Thein of the Yangon Division Court withdrew his earlier decision to hear the case without representation by Suu Kyi after she failed to appear in court on Nov. 21 in response to a subpoena.
The suit has been brought by Aung San Oo to divide the property comprising the two-story lakefront villa at No. 54 University Avenue where Suu Kyi has lived since April 1988.
The property belonged to her mother, who died in December 1988. According to Myanmar laws, Suu Kyi and her brother, a U.S. citizen, are entitled to equal parts of the property.
