Suu Kyi, generals attend 9/11 ceremony
MYANMAR: Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi on Wednesday
attended a memorial ceremony of the Sept. 11 attacks together
with senior generals from the ruling military junta, diplomats
and witnesses said.
It was the first time the veteran pro-democracy campaigner,
freed in May from 19 months of house arrest, has been seen in
public attending a function with senior junta officials, the
diplomats and other witnesses said, asking to remain anonymous.
They said Suu Kyi was seated in the front row at the ceremony
at the Traders Hotel, along with Maj. Gen. Kyaw Win, deputy chief
of military intelligence and deputy foreign minister Khin Maung
Win.
They were seated separately and did not speak to one another
during or after the ceremony, the sources said. --AFP
