Sutrisno wins golds at nationals

JAKARTA: Lampung lifter Sutrisno swept the four golds available in the 60-kg powerlifting class at the National Weightlifting and Powerlifting Championships in South Jakarta on Wednesday.

The 30 year old, who won three gold medals at the World Powerlifting Championships in Miami in November where he was named the best lifter, increased his own national bench press record, from 167.5 kg to 190 kg.

"Actually, I'm still tired after competing in the worlds last month as I haven't had enough rest, but I had to take part in the nationals," he was quoted as saying by Antara news service.

He also won gold medals in the squat and dead lift, and his combined total of 730 kg was 95 kg better than second placed Sutiono. However, it was outside his world record of 742.5 kg set in Miami.

In the women's 60-kg class, another Lampung lifter, Noviasari, set new national marks of 117.5 kg in the bench press and 196 kg in the dead lift. She also took the top honors in the squat and total lift categories. -- JP
