Sutiyoso's request
Sutiyoso's request
From Bisnis Indonesia
A Jakarta-based newspaper reported on March 16 and March 17, 2003, that director of traffic affairs of the National Police Headquarters Brig. Gen. Anang Budiardjo had said Jakarta governor Sutiyoso had asked that he be given the plate number B-I-DKI for is official automobile.
I support the rejection of this request by several parties. If this request were fulfilled, it would blatantly ignore the current system for motorized vehicle plate numbers; namely, the provision of two letters after the number.
Besides, the fulfillment of this request would create a bad precedent for wealthy and powerful people. Some might ask that they, too, be given exclusive numbers.
It is really surprising that Sutiyoso has time to think about such a trivial matter when he has so much work to do every day. It is very clear that he has asked for this special plate number purely to make himself the center of attention as his car passes along the road. In fact, he is already present in print and electronic media reports every day.
